No Chapter: State of the Novel Address

Hello everyone. I’m sure people are going to be greatly disappointed by the fact that I do not have a chapter this week either.  Yet again.  Well, like I said previously, I am going to need a LOT of empathy to write the next chapter.  And like last time, I don’t have the energy to draw from for that empathy.

Why?  I just worked a full week, and I had a day of (delicious) overtime on top of it, and only have 1 day off this week as a result. Not enough time to build empathy.  And on that note, there won’t be a chapter next week either, as I get yet another (delicious) day of overtime.  I’ve been unemployed and having shit jobs so long, I really need all the work I can get, as I’m about 10 years behind on saving for my retirement.

Yes, I’m not young and in my 20s. My energy is limited, even though my imagination is not.  I need to do what is right for me, and the choice basically boiled down to, “Do I work a day getting $25 / hour in overtime for my job, or $0.75 / hour writing for complete strangers on the internet?”  While I highly value all my readers, vocal / non-vocal, free / Patreon, kind / obnoxious… I need to prioritize myself and my needs.

If I had more Patreon backers, Stop Calling Me A Demon King would be much higher on my to do list.  But it remains only in the field of a Hobby, one I intend to see to completion, mind.  But unless and until it is actually profitable for me to spend my time on it, I will always have to prioritize my Real Life.

I hope you all understand, and forgive me.  In the mean time, I will still be releasing chapters of the Maoujanai High spin off series as I can.

  1. Strangely, I can only become a Patreon backer if you keep up the reduced release rate. I cannot afford to pay $4-5/mo for a web comics, but can afford to pay $1/mo.

  2. Perfectly understandable situation on all levels but one: timeliness of this post. I’m perfectly fine waiting, but status updates should happen as soon as schedule is delayed. I did appreciate the partial note on Maoujanai when I was looking for information afterwards, but SCDK release info should be its own update notice, not tacked onto another release.

Either way, thank you for the update, glad that you got over your cold from before and are able to work at a great-paying job to make your ends meet.
